How to get the latest version of the Windows Media component?

IMPORTANT! These updates are not necessary if you have Windows Vista or Windows Media Player 10 or later.

On Windows XP install the Windows Media Audio 9.1 component, otherwise install V9.0.

Windows Media Audio 9.1 [WinXP only]

Windows Media Audio 9.0 [Win9x/NT/ME/2000]
